Twenty-one divers, led and trained by the local organization, were concluding their underwater journey and preparing to ascend to their boat. While at this considerable depth, one diver signaled to the group, pointing to their ear and then upwards, indicating they could hear something unusual. Above them, a dangerous tropical storm had rapidly developed, creating 6-8 foot tall waves. The divers at 110 feet could not physically feel the storm's turbulence. Chad Seay, lead instructor and owner of Southwest Aqua Sports, noted his surprise, stating that in his 30 years of diving experience, he had never heard rain at even 90 feet down.

This extraordinary event highlights the unpredictable challenges that can arise even for seasoned divers from our own South Plains. The patter of rain, heard 110 feet deep, powerfully demonstrated the immense force a storm can exert across the water column.
