The disruption spread well beyond one borough. About 425 flights were cancelled and more than 3,000 delayed as the storm knocked out power and snarled travel across the Northeast.
For residents, that means darkened homes, stalled commutes and the kind of chaos that turns a weekend into a scramble for flashlights and generators. Thousands of passengers were stuck or rerouted as airports absorbed much of the fallout. Officials are treating the storm as a serious weather event, not just an inconvenience.
