Project to replace historic brick on Broadway breaks ground in downtown Lubbock - KCBD

Downtown Lubbock's historic Broadway is officially getting a major overhaul, replacing its signature brick with concrete.
The overhaul adds new bike lanes, wider sidewalks, benches, trees, and upgraded lighting, plus modern traffic signals. Beyond the surface, underground pipes and drainage systems will also be overhauled.
Drivers heading into downtown will soon navigate a smoother road, while pedestrians and cyclists gain better access along the key artery. The project promises a more modern, functional entrance to the city core, even if the familiar brick feel changes. This reshapes how people experience the area around Buddy Holly Hall and the Depot District.
Broadway has been a major thoroughfare for over a century, and now its surface enters a new era.
