Tech fall to Iowa in Kwik Star Klassic

Tech dropped to 8-4 on the year while Iowa improved to 9-3. Sara Bowcutt kept pace with her recent form, putting down 16 kills, and Gretchen Sigman added 14 kills while hitting an efficient .591 on the day. Elia Dinsmore and Tatum Johnson combined for 17 more kills, giving the Red Raiders four players in double figures for kills in a single match.

Katelyn Cochran ran the offense with 38 assists and grabbed 10 digs, good for her third double-double of the season. That performance earned her a spot on the tournament's All-Tournament Team. Sigman also led the Red Raiders defensively at the net with four blocks. Emily Contreras and Maddie Smotherman combined for 15 digs to anchor the back row.

For a program still building its rsum, a four-set loss on the road is not the finish Tech wanted heading out of Iowa City. The Red Raiders showed they can hang with bigger-conference competition, but the tournament finale came up short against a team playing a weight class up.

Cochran's individual honor from a match her team lost is a reminder that strong performances and final scores do not always tell the same story.
