Texas DPS identifies Brownfield woman killed in wrong-way crash - Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

Investigators say Williams was driving a 2019 Chevrolet Trax north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 62 when it slammed head-on into a 2017 Ford F-150 pickup. The crash happened about 3:30 a.m. Sept. 12, just under half a mile southwest of County Road 670. Her SUV caught fire on impact, and DPS has not said whether she was wearing a seatbelt.

Terry County sits about 40 minutes southwest of Lubbock. U.S. 62 is a route plenty of South Plains families use to get between Brownfield and the rest of the region, driving it without a second thought most days. What happened in the dark, empty stretch before dawn is still unclear.

The driver of the pickup, a 38-year-old man, survived, according to DPS, though the agency has not released his condition. For neighbors in Brownfield and across Terry County, the crash is a gut punch, a 20-year-old woman gone in an instant on a familiar road.

DPS has not said what caused Williams to end up driving into oncoming traffic.
