Texas has a $138 billion plan to keep traffic moving - Land Line Media

Texas Gov. Gregg Abbott announced a $138 billion, 10-year transportation investment plan aimed at reducing congestion and improving roads across the state.

The Texas Department of Transportation developed the plan, which targets both local roads and major infrastructure projects statewide. Abbott cited the state's growing population and economy as the driving forces behind the investment, saying the money will strengthen roadways, reduce congestion, improve safety, and support growth.

For Lubbock, a city that runs on trucks, farm equipment, and long highway hauls between here and everywhere else, a plan this size could mean real attention to the roads that matter most to people here. The plan sets aside $34.6 million each year specifically for rest areas and truck parking, which signals the state is thinking about freight movement and long-haul drivers, not just urban commuters.

That funding matters in a region where US-82, the Marsha Sharp Freeway, and the Loop carry a serious mix of commercial traffic day and night. Whether any of those dollars land in Lubbock depends on future project decisions TxDOT has not yet announced.

Texas has added millions of residents over the past decade, and the pressure on its road network has followed every single one of them.
