Texas Tech struggled through a rough first half offensively but blew the game open after halftime, outscoring the Bearkats 28-0 in the second half alone. The Red Raiders scored 14 points in each of the final three quarters. Austin Romaine had a hand in two of those touchdowns himself, taking back interceptions for touchdowns on back-to-back defensive plays from scrimmage.
Cameron Dickey did the heavy lifting on the ground, rushing for 91 yards and two touchdowns on just 12 carries. Will Hammond threw for 224 yards and connected with Coy Eakin for a score, going 17-of-29 through the air. Before the offense found its footing, though, he threw three straight interceptions during that shaky opening stretch.
For Red Raider fans, this one probably felt shakier than the final score suggests. A sluggish first half is the kind of thing that makes people nervous in the stands at Galaxy Stadium, even against a team like Sam Houston. But the defense bailed out the offense in dramatic fashion, and once the second half started, Texas Tech never let up.
A team that couldn't buy a first down for two quarters ended up winning by 35, thanks in part to a defender scoring twice on the same afternoon the offense couldn't stop turning the ball over.
