Texas Tech football is eyeing Tommy Castellanos, a dual-threat quarterback who played at UCF, Boston College, and Florida State, after a court ruling restored eligibility for a group of players including him. The ruling came Friday, Aug.
The ruling came Friday, Aug. 21, out of Louisville, Kentucky, and cracked open the transfer market for several experienced players. Castellanos brings 8,433 career yards of total offense to the table, the kind of production that gets a program's attention fast. Coach Joey McGuire had already hinted at quarterback movement, joking recently that Patrick Mahomes still had a year of college eligibility left and if the three-time Super Bowl MVP wanted to use it, "I'm sure there's a big check we can write him."
McGuire was not serious about Mahomes, but the joke pointed somewhere real. The Red Raiders are clearly looking at the position, and Castellanos fits the mold of what a modern spread offense wants at QB. For Tech fans who watched the quarterback room get reshuffled this offseason, this is another signal that McGuire is not done adding.
