US Supreme Court again blocks Missouri’s gerrymandered congressional map

The unanimous, unsigned decision found that state law controls the case. Justices ruled that the 2022 map, not a newer version pushed by Republicans in 2025, must govern next year's races.

The ruling shuts down a Republican effort to redraw district lines in a way that would have improved the party's odds of picking up a seventh U.S. House seat from Missouri. It caps three weeks of legal back and forth over which map would stand.

For Missouri voters, the decision means certainty. Whatever plans either party had built around the new lines are now off the table.

The ruling settles the map fight for now, but leaves open whether Missouri Republicans try again before the next round of redistricting.
