The deputy was taken to a hospital in Odessa, treated, and released. Ramirez Vasquez was airlifted to a hospital in Lubbock with serious injuries.

For DPS troopers across West Texas, this dedication marks a permanent tribute at their own regional office, not some distant memorial. Lubbock ends up hosting the physical reminder of a death that happened over 100 miles away near Odessa, because that's where Ramirez Vasquez was flown for treatment.
