Hurricane Nolo predicted to bring ‘life-threatening flooding’ to Hawaii

The state activated more than 230 Hawaii National Guard members and closed schools ahead of the storm. Nolo is forecast to track west on Saturday, but officials say the heavy rainfall and large, damaging waves along the coast will still pose serious danger to residents.

The timing makes this especially rough. Remote communities across Hawaii are still digging out from extreme weather earlier this summer that destroyed homes, washed away roads and knocked out power to entire neighborhoods. Now those same areas face another round of flooding before repairs from the last disaster are even finished.

For families already dealing with damaged homes or unstable roads, the storm can still undo what little progress they've made. National Guard troops on standby and shuttered schools signal officials expect real impact, not just a close call offshore.
