Joe Martinez indicted, facing additional charge in connection with 2025 murder - KCBD
A Lubbock grand jury handed Joe Martinez a second murder charge Tuesday, more than a year after police found a man shot dead inside a vehicle near Jarvis and North Avenue Q. Martinez was first indicted in March of last year on murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges.

The original charges stemmed from a fight reported in February of last year at that North Avenue Q location, where officers arrived to find 36-year-old Adam Hernandez shot and killed inside a vehicle.
The driver of that vehicle, 37-year-old Larry Moreno, was also shot during the incident and transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Tuesday's additional indictment connects Martinez to both victims in a more formal legal way than the original charges did.
For the families of Hernandez and Moreno, the new indictment signals prosecutors are not finished building the case. Martinez remains held at the Lubbock County Detention Center while the case moves forward. A grand jury found enough evidence to pursue a heavier charge more than a year into the legal process.
Martinez now faces two murder charges and one aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge from a single night in February of last year.
