Joey McGuire on Texas Tech's 35-24 Win at Oregon State

McGuire talked with Chris Level of Double-T 97.3 right after the game and didn't waste time bragging on his own team first. He credited Oregon State quarterback Braden Atkinson and freshman receiver Jesse Legree, saying he was worried about Atkinson coming in and calling Legree "pretty special" for a first-year player.

For a program that's leaned heavily on home crowds and Big 12 matchups to pad its win column, going into a hostile non-conference environment and coming out with a win means something different. It tells people here whether this team can handle adversity away from Lubbock, not just show up when the crowd's behind them.

McGuire also pointed to problems that carried over from the season-opening win over Abilene Christian, self-inflicted mistakes he wants cleaned up before conference play ramps up. Nobody's popping champagne over 2-0, but a true road win against a Power Four opponent is the kind of thing that shows up on a resume in November.

Eight years between road wins like this one is a long time to wait for a program that talks about itself in Big 12 title terms.
