Prosperity Bank and the City of Lubbock have planted 1,000 American flags at Huneke Park, 4001 82nd St., in an annual tribute to the nearly 3,000 people killed in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Bank associates and area first responders placed the flags early Friday, September 4.

The Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department and volunteers helped coordinate the effort alongside Prosperity Bank. Mike Marshall, identified as a West Texas representative, was quoted speaking to the yearly nature of the event and the role of first responders and volunteers in pulling it together.
For anyone who wants to see it in person, the window closes early Monday morning. Huneke Park sits in a residential stretch of south Lubbock, easy to swing by whether you're coming off Loop 289 or cutting through the neighborhood. No admission, no program, just a field of flags.
September 11 marks 24 years since the attacks that killed 2,977 people at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in a Pennsylvania field.
