Tucker Carlson warned on his podcast that Texas Gov.
Carlson made the comment on his September 2 episode of "The Tucker Carlson Show" during a conversation with "Breaking Points" host Saagar Enjeti. The two were discussing President Donald Trump's criticism of Republican governors who put moratoriums on data centers, a policy that included Texas.
Carlson's remarks suggested Abbott was not acting on principle when it came to the data center moratorium, implying political pressure rather than conviction drove the governor's position. Hinojosa has apparently closed enough ground to make a conservative commentator sound a genuine alarm about a race that, in Texas, would normally not be close.
For people in Lubbock, a city that has voted reliably Republican in statewide races, the idea that a Democratic challenger is within striking distance of the governorship is the kind of shift that would reshape the political math across West Texas. Abbott has carried Lubbock County by wide margins in past cycles.
Texas has not elected a Democratic governor since Ann Richards left office in 1995.
