The Lobster House in Cape May has managed to reopen, but only partially, while it works through repairs. Other establishments along the Shore remain closed entirely as crews sort out water damage and figure out what it will take to get back open.
For the businesses caught in the storm's path, the timeline to full recovery looks uneven. Some are serving customers again, but only in the part of the building that survived intact. Others are stuck in the assessment phase, unable to say when doors will open again.
It's a reminder of how exposed these shoreline institutions are. A storm like this can knock out a landmark restaurant for weeks, even as the beach next door starts to dry out.
