Teens arrested in connection with armed robbery at East Lubbock lake - Lubbock Avalanche-Journal

Ashton Burgess, 18, Vanitee Zae Garcia, 19, Joshua Gipson, 18, Martisa Nayeli Gonzalez, 19, and Julius Jackson, 18, were booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center Tuesday morning. Police opened the investigation after officers got a call around 5:18 a.m. On Sept. 15 about a robbery at the lake in East Lubbock.

According to jail records, the five face multiple felony counts, including aggravated robbery, engaging in organized criminal activity and theft of a firearm, a combination that suggests police are treating this as more than a random incident. Prosecutors are likely to argue the group acted together and made off with a gun during the confrontation.

For people who live near or use Dunbar Historical Lake, the arrests answer the immediate question of who police believe was involved. They don't undo that a predawn robbery happened at a public park where families and anglers expect routine and safety.
