Start here

  1. Water, sewer and trash: call City of Lubbock Utilities at 806-775-2509.

  2. Electricity: compare providers at PowerToChoose.org. Gas: call Atmos Energy at 888-286-6700.

  3. Within 30 days: register your car at the Lubbock County Tax Office, 916 Main St., Suite 102.

  4. Within 90 days: swap your out-of-state license at a DPS office. All driver license service is by appointment.

  5. Sign up for LBKAlert emergency alerts. Text LBKALERT to 888-777 for English or LBKALERTES for Spanish.

    City drop-off sites for brush, bulky items, used oil and antifreeze, and recycling. Four locations: 1631 84th St., 208 Municipal Dr., 4307 Adrian St. and 7308 Milwaukee Ave.

How long do I have to get a Texas driver license and register my car?

Texas DPS says you can drive on a valid license from another state for up to 90 days after moving. You surrender it and do not take the knowledge or driving tests. TxDMV gives you 30 days to register your vehicle. Lubbock County is not on the state’s list of emissions-testing counties.

How do I set up electricity in Lubbock?

Lubbock has retail electric choice. Lubbock Power & Light owns the poles and wires, and you pick an electricity provider. The city points residents to PowerToChoose.org to compare plans. Water, sewer and trash are billed by City of Lubbock Utilities, which starts, stops and moves service at 806-775-2509.

When is the voter registration deadline?

Texas voters must register by the 30th day before an election. VoteTexas.gov says the deadline for the Nov. 3, 2026 election is Oct. 5, 2026. The Lubbock County Elections Office at 1308 Crickets Ave. handles registration and does not accept applications by fax or email.
