Beavers play competitive game against Texas Tech - The Daily Barometer

Texas Tech's football team beat Oregon State 35-24 at Reser Stadium Saturday, holding off a Beavers squad that outgained the Red Raiders in the first half. Tech, ranked 13th in the nation and second in the Big 12 heading into the game, led 14-7 at halftime despite Oregon State piling up 205 total yards to the Red Raiders' 163.

Tech, ranked 13th in the nation and second in the Big 12 heading into the game, led 14-7 at halftime despite Oregon State piling up 205 total yards to the Red Raiders' 163. Both teams were playing their second game of the year, and for Oregon State it was the second straight matchup against a ranked, out-of-conference opponent. Tech came in fresh off a 33-point win over Abilene Christian on Sept. 5, sitting at 1-0.

For Red Raider fans watching from Lubbock, this is exactly the kind of road test the program wanted early in the year, a chance to prove the ranking against a Pac-12 opponent playing on its own turf. A win away from Jones AT&T Stadium against a team that actually moved the ball on them says something about depth, especially if the offense had to grind it out after a slow start.

Oregon State making it a game despite the yardage gap shows Tech still has some cleaning up to do before conference play heats up. That's the kind of stat that makes coaches watch a lot more film this week.
