The Bearcats are 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the Big 12. Their running game, led by Gi'Bran Payne and Cole Tabb, ranks 11th in the country at 234 yards. Texas Tech's defense is the only FBS program in week eight that has not allowed a rushing touchdown.

McGuire called the matchup "a great test." He pointed to Cincinnati's offensive line, saying three of its players had NFL grades going into the season. Quarterback JC French IV, a fifth-year player, has completed 108 of 153 passes for 1,338 yards, nine touchdowns and no interceptions. He also has 66 carries for 245 yards and six touchdowns. Defensive coordinator Shiel Wood said French can extend plays and that Cincinnati leans on runs, play action and bootlegs on early downs.

For Red Raider fans, this is the first real road test of an unbeaten run. Tech also brings its "Pick Six Club" to Ohio. Linebackers John Curry, Ben Roberts and Austin Romaine each returned an interception for a touchdown in Tech's previous three games. Roberts is the newest member, and his came last Saturday against Arizona State.
