Toot 'N Totum, an Amarillo-based chain, began its Lubbock or Bust expansion in 2022. It has opened more than 10 locations since and shows no signs of stopping. No opening date has surfaced.

The chain traces back to 1951, when Eldon "Lefty" and Novie Mitchell opened the first store at 15th and Washington in Amarillo. Eldon died four years later. Novie, a widowed mother of two, took over and acquired select Diamond Shamrock stores, Phillips 66 stores and Frontier Fuels. The chain has since expanded into New Mexico, Oklahoma and Kansas.

For Lubbock, 4th Street is the latest address on the list. Folks can follow the chain at tootntotum.com, Facebook or Instagram, and the company runs apps in the Apple and Google Play stores.

Not bad for a name that comes from drivers tooting their horns while employees toted orders out to customers.
