The Big 12 Board of Directors will lead a national search for his successor, and it begins immediately. Yormark called serving as commissioner "an extraordinary honor." He thanked Board Chair Douglas A. Girod, athletic directors, coaches, student-athletes, fans, fellow commissioners and league office colleagues.
Yormark guided the Big 12 through a period of growth. Eight new members were integrated on his watch, and the conference expanded into new markets across the country. He also served as a prominent voice in national discussions on the House settlement, the College Sports Commission, the Protect College Sports Act and expanding the College Football Playoff.
Nothing changes overnight. Yormark stays at the helm for about three more months. He said the next commissioner will inherit a conference that is "16 Strong," and that there has never been a better time to be a member of the Big 12. He looks forward to passing the baton and plans to keep cheering as a lifelong fan.
The release never says what the new job is.
