Burr has bowled since college, and five years ago she moved from Washington to Lubbock and soon joined the Work Dodgers league. One substitute is fresh out of high school and the rest of the bowlers are older. "So it's a cross-generational thing that's wonderful," Burr said.

Burr says healthy habits keep her moving. She eats well, sleeps plenty, and has never smoked or drunk alcohol. Dianne Black, president of the Work Dodgers, has bowled for about 50 years and says she has never seen anybody so determined. "If we're going to bowl, she's going to be here," Black said.

That matters in a league where, Black says, many members decide they just don't need to do this anymore. Then they look at Burr and figure they can. For Burr, the lanes are about people, and she says she simply enjoys the interaction.

Both women say the point has nothing to do with a high score, only sisterhood and doing what you love.
