Kickoff came at 11:07 a.m. In 55-degree, cloudy weather, and 59,131 fans filled the stadium. The Red Raiders improved to 7-1. They have not lost at home since Nov. 9, 2024, against Colorado.
The 13-game run ties the longest home streak in program history, which dates to the World War II era and covers the 1939-42 seasons. Only Ohio at 17 games and Ole Miss at 16 have longer active home streaks in the FBS. Joey McGuire now stands 27-5 in home games in his career, including 17-4 against Big 12 opponents.
The game also brought back some old history. Arizona had not played in Lubbock since 1989, and the teams had not met here as conference opponents since 1955, when both belonged to the Border Conference. Texas Tech leads the all-time series 28-5-2.
For fans, the next date is easy to circle. The Red Raiders host West Virginia on Nov. 7 with a shot at a new program record for home wins in a row. This 7-1 start is also the 15th time Texas Tech has opened 7-1 or better through eight games, and the fourth time in consecutive seasons.
Arizona's lone win in Lubbock came in 1935, by a score of 7-6.
