Foster served as Tim Tadlock's pitching coach for the 2026 campaign. Before that, he coached pitchers for the Colorado Rockies from 2015 to 2021, the Kansas City Royals from 2010 to 2014 and the Miami Marlins from 2007 to 2009. His career covers more than two decades at the pro and college levels.
Foster, a Dallas native, came home to Texas and quickly helped set up a pitching lab built around technology and analytics, drawing on his time in the pros. "As of Oct. 28, 2026, I have decided to retire from the game of baseball," Foster said. He thanked Texas Tech for the chance to coach in his home state.
Tadlock thanked Foster and his family for the time they gave the program. "Steve is well regarded as a pitching coach at every level of baseball," Tadlock said.
The pitching staff gets a new leader for 2027. Tadlock named Jacob Evans the next pitching coach. Evans joined the program in August as Director of Pitching Development, after seven seasons at Oklahoma and Central Oklahoma.
