Rai steps in after the first window deal with Prime Video Italy runs down. Distributor Fremantle made the sale ahead of a premiere tonight. Al De Azpiazu, Fremantle's SVP of distribution for French and German speaking Europe, Italy, Spain and Portugal, called it a major second-window deal with Rai 2, struck before the series has launched.
The reboot runs 12 episodes and arrives decades after the original series. It keeps the red swimsuits and brings an all-new cast of lifeguards to the world's most famous stretch of sand. Amell plays Hobie Buchannon. David Chokachi returns as Cody Madison, and Erika Eleniak, Michael Bergin and Kelly Packard guest star.
Prime Video already has rights across Italy, Germany, France, Spain, Portugal, Benelux, Switzerland, Austria, Turkey, Canada, Latin America and India. Sky bought the UK and Ireland, and Stan has Australia. De Azpiazu said buyers want the scale and energy the brand delivers.
