Idalou edged Vernon 7-0 in a defensive grind, while Monterey rolled past Frenship Memorial 49-17. All three games landed in the same KCBD roundup covering Thursday night football across the area.
The bigger storyline looks ahead to Friday, when Frenship and Lubbock High square off. Jay Northcutt, Frenship's head coach, and Juan Rodriguez, who leads Lubbock High, already spoke to KCBD about the matchup before kickoff.
For fans around Lubbock, the week offers a mixed bag. Ropes supporters got a blowout to brag about, Idalou backers watched a nail-biter decided by a single score, and Frenship Memorial's loss to Monterey adds pressure heading into a weekend where the program also has to answer for a 32-point margin against its varsity counterpart.
