Brownwood finished with 150 team points, behind Canyon's 48, Canyon Randall's 83, Stephenville's 121 and Midland Greenwood's 127. Alexus Gutierrez led the Lady Lions, crossing in 12th place with a time of 12:35.4. Jordan Johnson followed in 14th at 12:39.0. Destiny Sharp, Ellie Mirahmadi-Zoghi, Paisley Hill and Rebekkah Delgado rounded out the scoring runners between 37th and 52nd place.
On the boys side, Juston Burt ran alone for Brownwood, finishing 46th in the Class 4A division with a time of 18:30.6.
A fifth-place finish gives the Lady Lions a look at what they're up against before region. Canyon's 48 points shows how far ahead the top of the division is running, and Brownwood will need to close that gap fast.
Gutierrez and Johnson finished just four seconds apart at the front of the Lady Lions pack, a gap that could matter a lot more when it counts.
