The show starts at 7:30 p.m. The Lubbock Chorale joins conductor David Cho, the full orchestra and four vocal soloists for one of the most ambitious performances in the orchestra's history.
Verdi composed the piece in 1874. According to music historians, it has become the most performed choral work written since Mozart. Cho, who is in his 15th season conducting the LSO, says the music "demands your full attention from the first note."
Doors open at 6 p.m., and the Keegan Peck Quartet, a local jazz ensemble, plays in the lobby beforehand.
The night doubles as a look at how far the orchestra has come. CEO Heather Hocker credits William Harrod, who had a vision for what Lubbock could be. The orchestra began on the stage of Lubbock High School, and it now performs in what Hocker calls one of the finest concert halls in the country.
Armstrong Plumbing, Air and Electric presents the anniversary, with celebration sponsorship from Alan Henry Insurance, Casserole Premium Quality Beans, Chicken Express and others.
