The money goes to the TTUHSC Pediatric Fund for Excellence. That fund is part of a $10 million fundraising initiative built to close gaps in pediatric specialty care and strengthen services at Texas Tech Physicians Pediatrics in Amarillo. The university says the gift lets it respond to the changing healthcare needs of children and families across the region for years to come.
The university also lists what gifts like this can pay for. That includes recruiting and keeping providers, outreach programs and pediatric health clinics, and clinic renovation and expansion. It also covers efforts to address health disparities and promote preventive care, plus more local subspecialty care for medically complex children.
For families in the Panhandle, the pitch is care close to home. TTUHSC President Lori Rice-Spearman, Ph.D., said families turn to Texas Tech Physicians Pediatrics knowing their children will get specialized care nearby. She said the investments help attract talented providers to the Panhandle and protect access to high-quality care for the most vulnerable population, children. "Without continued community investment, thousands of children could face significant challenges accessing the care they need," she said.
