Baylor, now 10-5 overall and 2-3 in conference, took the first set 25-15. The Bears sided out over 90 percent of the time and hit over .450. Tech made four attack errors, the same as Baylor, but managed just seven kills against a back row that dug 13 balls.
Tech nearly doubled that kill total in the second set. Baylor still hit .324 with 15 kills and three attack errors, and won 25-20 even after the Red Raiders pulled within two late.
The third set turned into a fight, with 11 ties and lead changes. Baylor led 15-12 at the media timeout, Tech tied it at 17-17 and grabbed the lead the next point. Baylor called timeout down 22-20, and Tech forced set point. The Bears won 28-26 anyway.
Kenna McKenzie led the Red Raiders with 11 kills. Katelyn Cochran ran the offense with 27 assists, plus four kills and five digs. Tatum Johnson had six blocks, one of them solo, and Gretchen Sigman added five. On defense, Elia Dinsmore led with eight digs, and libero Emily Contreras had seven. For Tech fans, the third set showed this team can stay with a conference opponent, even at 8-9 overall.
The Red Raiders head to TCU and Houston next week still hunting their first conference win.
