She says the question treats her uterus like a matter of grave public concern. Of the billions of reasons someone might not have kids, she argues, zero are anyone else's business.

Some women have struggled with infertility or devastating miscarriages. Others deal with health problems or relationship issues. She says a woman who tried desperately to become a parent can lose an entire afternoon to one innocent question. And some just don't want kids, which she calls a perfectly acceptable reason.

Her own reasons run lighter. She likes sleeping until noon and owning furniture without sticky mystery stains. Kids also cost a lot, and she says grocery prices alone make you reconsider the ones you already have. The return policy, she points out, isn't like Walmart's.

She wants the biological clock comments to stop too, since she says it's 2026 and that stuff doesn't fly anymore. Her cats are enough for now, though she may change her mind. Or not.

Her suggested replacement for the kids question is asking whether someone has ever hidden a body.
