The Chaps posted matching rounds of 287 on the par-72, 6,800-yard course and sit at 574, 2-under, in a 15-team field. Those were LCU's lowest team rounds of the season, and the last 287 came in the final round of The Sam Proal Invitational on March 31 in Pueblo, Colorado.
Reagan, from Brownwood, Texas, opened with a 74 and came back with the 68 in the afternoon. That moved him into a tie for 18th at 142. His round was LCU's lowest individual score this season and the program's best since Maximiliano Dufey shot a 68 at The Sam Proal. Reagan started both rounds on No. 7 and shot 34 on each side. He birdied Nos. 7, 8, 15 and 16 in round two. He had shot a 69 four times in his college career before Monday's 68.
Hunter Welch, a Midland College transfer, put together the best two rounds of his short Chaparral career, a 70 and a 72. That ties him with Reagan at 142. Welch has played the par 5s at 4-under, tied for the best mark in the field, and he has 11 birdies.
The 54-hole event wraps up with the final round Tuesday.
