The Alzheimer's Association organizes the walk each year, and the Lubbock community consistently turns out by the hundreds to join the fight. Alzheimer's ranks among the leading causes of death in the U.S., affecting more than 7 million Americans, with another 13 million people serving as caregivers, according to the Alzheimer's Association.
For families here dealing with a parent's or spouse's diagnosis, events like this offer something beyond fundraising. They put names and faces on a disease that often isolates the people caring for someone who's declining. The crowd at Adventure Park included neighbors, coworkers, and relatives who know firsthand what it means to watch someone forget who they are.
The Alzheimer's Association also points people toward resources year-round, covering everything from early detection to support for caregivers. Those tools are available at alz.org for anyone who couldn't make it Saturday but still needs help.
On Saturday, those caregivers walked through Adventure Park together, fighting a disease that still has no cure.
