Camacho joined the group, known as ICfAD, in 2014. He had just started as dean of the Fain College of Fine Arts at Midwestern State University, part of the Texas Tech University System. Over the next decade he served on the board, chaired multiple committees and helped shape international symposiums in Cuba and Mexico, where he has several academic connections.

Last year, he moved to the administrative track that leads to the presidency. His priority now is to strengthen the organization and expand the support it gives members.

"It was the first time I'd joined an organization dedicated to helping deans," Camacho said. He said the group became inspirational because it connected him with extraordinary leaders who had great ideas about advancing the arts.

Ron Hendrick, the university's provost and senior vice president, said Camacho will serve his fellow deans with integrity and respect. Outgoing president James Frazier, dean of the Florida State University College of Fine Arts, called Camacho "a thoughtful and generous leader."
