The expanded facility sits at Aspen Ave. And East 19th St., alongside The Hope Center, a companion site built for people who need immediate mental health assessment but not a hospital stay. Beth Lawson, CEO of StarCare Specialty Health System, said the old capacity had fallen short for roughly two decades. "There's been a lot more need in our community than we could provide directly," Lawson said.

That gap matters for anyone in Lubbock who has waited on a psychiatric bed or driven a family member somewhere else for care. Doubling capacity means more people in crisis can get help close to home instead of being turned away or sent out of town. Families now have another option close by for quick evaluation before deciding what kind of care they need.

For East Lubbock specifically, the expansion puts a bigger piece of regional mental health infrastructure right in the neighborhood. Families dealing with a crisis now have more beds and more entry points nearby, at a facility that had been stretched thin for years.
