The station runs the scholarship with Texas Tech's Free Market Institute. October 13 is Hasty's birthday, and KFYO used the date to remind his listeners how they can support it. Hasty graduated from Texas Tech and hosted what the station calls West Texas' most-listened-to talk show.

Money from the fund goes to undergraduates who have finished the institute's Political Economy Reading Program. Applicants compete for the award through a process Texas Tech hosts every semester.

Giving takes two routes. Write a check to Texas Tech Foundation, Inc., and add a memo line naming the Free Market Institute and Chad Hasty. Mail it to the Free Market Institute at Texas Tech University, Box 45059, Lubbock, TX 79409-5059. If you would rather skip the stamp, Texas Tech Foundation also created a QR code you can scan.

Every dollar listeners give stays tied to Hasty's name and to students in that program.

Hasty spent decades on KFYO, and now his name sits on a check for Texas Tech students.
