The City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department first scheduled the trail for October 15 through 18. Weather permitting, it now opens Friday, October 16, at 5 p.m., and the rest of the weekend stays on schedule.
The trail begins at the Arboretum, 4111 University Ave, and stretches over Clapp Park into the Garden and Arts area. The city accepts carved or decorated pumpkins Wednesday, October 14, from 9 a.m. To 6 p.m. At the Arboretum. Keep them fairly fresh so they last through the weekend.
The city built the trail for families, with little kids encouraged to come. Daytime makes for good photos, and the lit pumpkins give it a different feel after dark. Bring a little cash for hot chocolate if you go at night. Check the Parks and Recreation page or the city's social media before you head out.
People have walked this trail for 18 years, and in hot years the pumpkins looked a little soupy by Sunday.
