Sattler caught a pass from Brox Hacker in stride down the near sideline and scored for Canyon. His teammates rushed over to congratulate him. "It just felt amazing," Sattler said.

The touchdown meant more because of a doctor's appointment in February. Sattler said the doctor told him he probably would not play this season. He answered, "I'm going to prove you wrong and come back."

Canyon head coach Matt Lovorn was not surprised. He said the way Sattler attacked his recovery comes down to who he is.

Sattler did not have to return, since he already had college offers. But Canyon football meant too much to leave, and it is his final season. He wanted one more run with the brothers he has played with for seven years.

Teammates notice. Lovorn said Sattler sticks out in a big, special senior class because of his servant leadership and the way he cares for teammates. Will Kilgore put it simply: "I want to be like him."

Sattler has at least three games left.
