Tech (6-0, 3-0 Big 12) turned in its strongest offensive game of the season against the Sun Devils (3-3, 1-2). The Red Raiders finished with 502 total yards and went to the locker room up 43-10.
The start looked shaky. J'Koby Williams fumbled on the Sun Devils' 2-yard-line after a 63-yard opening drive. Seventy-six seconds later, linebacker and team co-captain Ben Roberts returned an interception 24 yards for a touchdown, his first pick six of the season. "The ball is as much ours as it is theirs," Roberts said.
The win answers some noise around this team. Head coach Joey McGuire said he heard people saying this doesn't look like last year's team. His reply was blunt. "It's not last year's team, but this team is still 6-0, and finding ways to win."
McGuire called it one of the best weeks of practice Tech has had, with "a sense of urgency" and "anger." Williams, a Beckville native, shook off his early mistake and finished with 173 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. "I had to get to what's next," he said.
