School of Medicine leaders accepted the gift on Oct. 13. It goes to the TTUHSC Pediatric Fund for Excellence, a $10 million fundraising effort that aims to close gaps in pediatric specialty care. The fund also targets stronger services at Texas Tech Physicians Pediatrics in Amarillo.

Money from gifts like this can pay for provider recruitment and retention, outreach programs and pediatric health clinics, and clinic renovation and expansion. It can also fund efforts to address health disparities, promote preventive care, and expand local subspecialty care for medically complex children.

"Our hope is to help TTUHSC continue growing pediatric specialties, recruiting exceptional providers and creating greater access to high-quality care for children right here in our region," said Brooke Rodriques, CMN director.

For families, the pitch is simple: less time on the road. Shannon Herrick, M.D., regional chair of pediatrics at TTUHSC, said a child needing specialty care is "incredibly stressful for families, especially when that care requires long-distance travel."

Forty-three gifts have pushed the fund to $3,426,536 so far, with a $10 million goal still ahead.
