The event is part of Walmart's annual National Wellness Day. More than 4,500 Walmart pharmacies nationwide should join in, including stores in the Texas Panhandle. Screenings cover blood pressure, cholesterol and BMI.
Elizabeth Neyland, the Walmart pharmacy manager, said the point is reach. "It's absolutely about being accessible and being convenient to our community so that we spread health care access as wide as we can," she said. The event welcomes everyone, including people without insurance. Neyland said staff will help people work out coverage with as little out-of-pocket cost as possible.
Flu season is already showing up at the counter. Neyland said October unofficially kicks off cold and flu season, and her pharmacy has seen more people coming in, with multiple outbreaks of cough, cold and flu plus a couple of COVID cases. She wants people to practice safe hygiene and stop by to go over their risks and strategies for keeping their families healthy. For anyone who has put off a shot or a blood pressure check over cost, this event takes the price tag away for a few hours.
